All too often, people use these interchangeably. Please stop.
"Yea" rhymes with "hay" and means basically the same thing as "hark," "thus," or "Look at this!" - also means "yes" - as in a parliamentary vote.
"Yeah" rhymes with "baa" (like a sheep's noise) and means basically "sure" or "yes"
"Yay" also rhymes with "hay" but means "Hooray!" or "I'm happy!"
"Yea" and "yay" are not the same word with different spellings. Please stop using them as such.
So far as I know, "yeh" means nothing, and is not a word. Do not use "yeh."
And weird is spelled "weird." It is only spelled "wierd" if you are intentionally spelling it wrong.
Thank you.

The Grammar King.

pardon me, but in the classic Usher hit "Yeah", the pronounciation most certainly does not rhyme with "Baa".
ReplyDelete"Yeah" rhymes more with "waa" (like a baby's noise), I think. But if you think of how an actual sheep sounds, and not how kids sound when we ask them, "what sound does a sheep make?", then yes, "yeah" rhymes with "baa."
ReplyDeleteAlso, "yeah" and "ya" are not the same word with different spellings.
"Ya" rhymes with "duh" and means "you"....except when Outkast sings it, but I think they are using their artistic license. When it's rapped and not sung, it rhymes with "duh."
